Project: Restoration

Dear T. Rutlands,

Hey guys! This is my '79 308 GTS with 139, 00 mile, with 120,000 of those miles put on by me in the last 10 years. As you can see we have pulled the entire engine out (which was a tight fit!) and did a whole lot of work. Using a homemade engine stand we checked the wear on the crank journals and started rebuilding the carbs. We have used T. Rutlands in chasing down some much needed parts especially for the carb cleaning and rebuild.

Of course when you get this far into it, there needs to be some fabricating with the rusted and heat damaged panels from years of driving this car as it was meant to be, HARD! We replaced all of the coolant, fuel and vacuum hoses (Thank you T. Rutlands!) and removed and cleaned the fuel tanks. You helped with the head gaskets and then we started on re-mating the timing belts and bearings with the transmission and deferential case. Whew.

Before we put the engine back in, we needed some parts from T. Rutlands that would have killed this project if it wasn't for your help. Ted was able to source and supply a critical replacement cast-aluminum piece that saved my rebuilt project. Without this piece this would have been a show-stopper for this project but you found it when no one else could find it.

Over the years I have purchased countless Ferrari 308 items from Ted from the little rubber stops that go at the top of the window frames in the doors, to the new trunk zipper cover and rubber mouldings. Gasket sets, bearing sets, ignition components, drive shaft assemblies, brake components, electrical switches, carb rebuilt kits, and the list goes on and on and on...

I can't thank you guys enough in helping with my restoration project!
